Chapter Four: When Man Fails, Trust God’s Faithfulness
Top of the morning to you!
We’re back again and excited to share what God has placed on our hearts. Let’s dive in.
Prayer
Father, forgive me of all sin. As I come before Your people, give me the words to speak. Let everything I say be edifying to the believers and all who are present. Let the wisdom, instruction, and revelation knowledge You bring forth through me be a blessing to all who hear. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Strategic Planning and Divine Direction
Yesterday, we discussed the importance of planning and preparation. Developing a strategy to manage life’s transitions—setting goals, making lists, and proactively addressing potential challenges—is essential. However, in hindsight, one area where I could’ve done better was in holding the organization that hired me to relocate to St. Louis accountable.
Instead of relying on verbal assurances, I should have insisted on a formal contract. This would have ensured accountability and clarity.
Proverbs 22:29 (KJV) says:
“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.”
This verse reminds us that diligence and skill can lead to great opportunities.
I was recruited by a startup ministry in St. Louis. Though they couldn’t match my six-figure income at the time, I had a relationship with the individual in charge. I believed their word when they made a vow before me and before God, promising that once the ministry grew, they would take care of me financially.
Despite the verbal promise, I knew I needed something more solid—God’s word. So I sought Him. And God spoke clearly: “Go and grow, or stay and die.” His word was enough. Matthew 5:18 confirms, “Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” I trusted that if God spoke it, it was already done.
Favor Through Obedience
Once I obeyed and activated my gifts—music, production, and sound—the ministry grew rapidly. Our praise department expanded from seven people to over 98 choir members and more than nine people on the audio crew. We trained, developed, and built a powerful ministry.
One day, I was called into a meeting. I thought the leader was finally going to fulfill his vow. Instead, he said, “I’ve decided not to honor my promise.” I was stunned. I had trusted this person and believed they would uphold their word before God. But I said nothing. I stood up and left.
Outside, I turned to God and prayed, “Father, You told me to come. I didn’t want to, but I obeyed. You heard what he said—now, what are You going to do about it?”
That was a turning point. My agreement wasn’t with a man or an organization—it was with God. And I knew Numbers 23:19 says: “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent…”
The Spirit of the Lord instructed me to sell my cars—my 1966 Super Sport Impala and my Typhoon truck—and buy a box truck. I was hesitant, but I obeyed. When I arrived at the dealership, a man I’d never met insisted on helping me and got me into a brand-new truck.
That truck launched a hotshot furniture-moving business in St. Louis that brought in between $3,000 to $5,000 per week. God made provision where man failed.
God Never Fails
Romans 8:27–28 (KJV) says:
“And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
I knew I was called. I obeyed God’s voice, so I stood confidently in the assurance that my steps were ordered by Him. And because of that, He backed me. He provided for me.
Interestingly, the ministry that once flourished no longer exists in 2025. That experience taught me that when you obey God, even if others break their promises, He remains faithful.
Ecclesiastes 5:5 (KJV) says:
“Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.”
That’s why I didn’t argue or retaliate—I handed it over to God. He judged the matter justly.
Romans 4:17–21 (KJV) encourages us with Abraham’s story:
“(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead…
He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.”
Lessons in the Transition
Through the entire process, God was teaching. Even in pain and uncertainty, there were lessons to learn—about faith, endurance, and trust. My faith in God deepened. I discovered how to listen more intently to His voice.
Returning to California was not an option. We had burned that bridge. Just like Abraham, we believed against hope in hope.
So when you’re obeying God and walking in the steps He ordered, remember that you’re not walking alone. His promises never fail.
Conclusion
When man’s promises fall through, God’s faithfulness will stand strong. Obedience positions us for divine provision, even in disappointment.
