Mindset (Part 9)

(Chapter 9): Hearing God’s Voice — Developing a Biblical Mindset through Spiritual Listening

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Romans 12:2 (KJV)

Introduction

Heavenly Father,
We ask Your forgiveness for all sin.
We thank You for the gift of another day and the privilege to speak Your Word.
May every listener be edified, transformed, and encouraged by the truth of Scripture.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Let’s get started.

We are now in Part 9 of our “Mindset” series, diving deeper into what it means to walk in a biblical mindset—a mindset that prioritizes spiritual values over worldly pursuits. In our previous discussion (Part 8), we focused on sight, one of the five God-given senses, and how it contributes to our spiritual transformation.

Today, we turn our attention to the second of these senses: hearing.

The Power of Hearing: A Tool for Transformation

Hearing is the ability to perceive sound through our ears by detecting vibrations in the air. But spiritually, hearing is far more than a biological function. It is a vital channel through which God speaks, guides, warns, and strengthens us.

Scripture tells us:
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Romans 10:17 (KJV)

Faith is built when we consistently hear the Word of God—not just physically, but spiritually receiving it with understanding and obedience.

Guarding What You Hear

Just as hearing can bring faith, it can also open the door to corruption, confusion, and fear if we do not guard what enters our ears.

Jesus warned us:
“Take heed therefore how ye hear…”
Luke 8:18a (KJV)

And also,
“Take heed what ye hear…”
Mark 4:24a (KJV)

These verses remind us that both the content and the context of what we hear matter deeply. The media we consume—music, podcasts, movies, even conversations—can shape our thoughts, decisions, and ultimately, our destinies.

The Danger of Corrupt Sounds

Today, believers—especially new ones—face a daily bombardment of harmful messages, often disguised in popular culture, music, games, and media. It’s been documented that some songs and media contain backward masking, where hidden, harmful messages are embedded within the content.

While this may seem extreme, we cannot ignore the psychological and spiritual effects of these influences. The enemy often uses sound—what we hear—as a tool to plant seeds of confusion, rebellion, depression, and destruction.

As believers, we must be vigilant.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
1 Peter 5:8 (KJV)

A Biblical Response: Hearing the Word of God

If we want to renew our minds, as Romans 12:2 commands, we must surround ourselves with the Word of God. Our ears must become gateways for truth, not trash. The Word builds faith. It enlightens. It cleanses. It edifies.

Daily listening to the Word, whether through preaching, teaching, or personal reading, trains our spiritual ears to recognize the voice of the Good Shepherd.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
John 10:27 (KJV)

Hearing is a Spiritual Discipline

Hearing must be active, not passive. We must:

  • Pay attention when the Word is spoken.

  • Be receptive to truth.

  • Meditate on what we’ve heard.

  • Apply it with faith.

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
James 1:22 (KJV)

When we hear the Word but do not obey, we deceive ourselves. But when we hear and respond in faith, transformation begins.

My Prayer for You

It is my daily prayer that:

  • My voice is anointed to speak life, hope, and power through God’s Word.

  • The hearers are edified, encouraged, and strengthened.

  • The Holy Spirit ministers through the message, touching lives in supernatural ways.

Let every word spoken be led by the Spirit so that transformation takes place in the lives of every listener.

Conclusion

Hearing isn’t just natural—it’s spiritual. Be mindful of what you allow into your ears. Let the Word of God be your primary sound, shaping your thoughts, strengthening your faith, and transforming your mind.

6 Takeaways

  • Faith comes by hearing—prioritize listening to God’s Word daily.

  • Guard your ears from corrupt influences in music, media, and conversation.

  • Spiritual hearing is active—receive the Word with faith and intention.

  • Apply what you hear to avoid deception and grow spiritually.

  • Recognize God’s voice and follow Him through His Word.

  • Hearing is a gate—either to edification or destruction. Choose wisely.

Chapter 8: Mindset

Sub-title: Developing a Biblical Mindset: Seeing Through the Lens of Scripture

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Romans 12:2 (KJV)

We are continuing our impactful series titled “Mindset”, and today marks Part Eight. In our journey so far, we’ve emphasized the importance of having a heavenly mindset—thinking with eternity in view, aligning our thoughts with God’s perspective. Now, we’re shifting focus slightly and zeroing in on the importance of having a biblical mindset.

Let’s begin with prayer.

Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank You for the opportunity to proclaim the gospel. Use my voice and words for Your glory, and may every reader be edified and transformed by Your Word. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Power of a Transformed Mind

Romans 12:2 urges believers not to conform to the world but to be transformed by the renewing of the mind. This is not a one-time event—it is a continuous process, an intentional act of spiritual growth that occurs throughout our entire lives. The world constantly seeks to shape our minds through media, entertainment, societal norms, and distractions. In response, we must deliberately renew our minds with God’s Word.

Just like our smartphones, computers, and tablets require updates, our minds also need spiritual updates—consistent input from God’s Word that brings clarity, correction, and calibration to our thinking. The Word of God is our spiritual update system, realigning us with God’s will and purpose.

What Is a Biblical Mindset?

A biblical mindset means filtering everything—our thoughts, decisions, goals, and reactions—through the lens of Scripture. It’s about replacing worldly logic and personal opinion with God’s truth.

This mindset is rooted in Colossians 3:2:

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
Colossians 3:2 (KJV)

God has given us five senses—sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste—to interact with the world around us. These senses are not inherently bad; they are tools given by God. However, when they are not governed by God’s Word, they can be manipulated or misused. Our will plays a critical role here. When we will to do God’s will, we begin to see through a spiritual lens, using our senses for God’s glory.

The First Sense: Sight

Let’s focus on sight, the first of our five senses. Sight allows us to detect light and interpret visual information. In Scripture, sight refers not only to physical vision but also to spiritual understanding.

The Bible frequently shows how Jesus gave physical sight to the blind, demonstrating God’s divine power. However, the spiritual dimension of sight is equally, if not more, important. Ephesians 1:18 says:

“The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling…”
Ephesians 1:18 (KJV)

God desires that our spiritual eyes be opened so we can comprehend divine truths. A biblical mindset teaches us how to see beyond the surface, to discern truth from error, light from darkness, and God’s will from the world’s agenda.

Seeing Through the Lens of Scripture

To develop a biblical mindset, we must learn to see things God’s way. That means:

  • We look at trials not as setbacks but as setups for spiritual growth (James 1:2-4).

  • We view people not through a lens of judgment but through a lens of love and redemption (John 13:34-35).

  • We perceive success not merely by worldly achievements, but by obedience to God’s purpose (Joshua 1:8).

A biblical mindset shapes how we view relationships, money, pain, purpose, and time. The world may say “follow your heart,” but Scripture says, “The heart is deceitful above all things” (Jeremiah 17:9). Instead, we are called to follow God’s Word, which is the standard for truth.

Daily Mind Renewal

Renewing the mind is not optional—it’s essential for spiritual maturity. This means daily exposure to Scripture, intentional meditation, and practical application of God’s truth. Psalm 119:105 reminds us:

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
Psalm 119:105 (KJV)

Each day, we face choices that can pull us away from God or draw us closer to Him. The more we immerse ourselves in His Word, the more natural it becomes to respond biblically, not emotionally or impulsively.

Conclusion

A biblical mindset doesn’t come automatically—it requires discipline, consistency, and desire. But the result is powerful: a life aligned with God’s will, equipped to discern truth, and empowered to live victoriously in a world that desperately needs light.

6 Key Takeaways:

  • Renewing the mind is a daily process, not a one-time event.

  • A biblical mindset filters every thought and action through God’s Word.

  • Our five senses, especially sight, must be governed by Scripture to stay aligned with God.

  • Spiritual sight involves discernment and recognizing God’s truths beyond what is seen.

  • Regular exposure to God’s Word transforms and updates our minds.

  • A biblical mindset leads to clarity, peace, and purpose in all areas of life.

Chapter 7: A Dangerous Perspective

Sub-title: Why a Heavenly Mindset Makes Believers Spiritually Powerful

Opening Prayer:

Father, forgive me of any sin as I come before Your people today.
I declare Your glory. I declare Your honor.
I bless Your holy name.
Heavenly Father, use my mouth that the people of God may be edified.
Let every listener be encouraged and built up in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

The Power of a Heavenly Mindset

As we continue our journey into developing a heavenly mindset, it is essential to understand that this mindset doesn’t just benefit us personally—it makes us dangerous to the kingdom of darkness. Why? Because a believer with a heavenly mindset becomes grounded, grateful, powerful, and discerning. They are not easily shaken by the distractions of life because their focus is on the eternal.

A heavenly mindset invites the presence of God into your daily routine. It aligns your heart with His purpose. It sets the tone for how you view your life, your trials, and the people around you. And most importantly, it postures you to be a vessel of His glory.

Gratitude is the Gateway

One of the most immediate results of a heavenly mindset is a heart full of gratitude. The Bible teaches in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV), “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Gratitude is more than a feeling—it is an intentional act of worship.

When we stop to thank God for the air we breathe, the family we have, the roof over our heads, and the clothes on our backs, we acknowledge His sovereignty and provision. Gratitude keeps us humble and reminds us that every blessing comes from above (James 1:17).

Nobody is inspired by an ungrateful person. Just as earthly parents are discouraged when their children don’t express thanks, our Heavenly Father also desires to be loved, honored, and acknowledged. John 4:23 tells us that the Father seeks those who worship Him in spirit and in truth. Let us be found worshipping when He comes looking.

Start your day by expressing thanks. Before reaching for your phone, lift up your hands. Before checking your schedule, acknowledge God’s sovereignty over your life. Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” This is the daily practice of a heavenly mindset.

Balance Through Eternal Perspective

Maintaining a heavenly mindset helps you keep your earthly responsibilities in perspective. Yes, you have a job. Yes, you interact with people daily. But a heavenly mindset allows you to carry a sense of God’s presence into every environment without drawing attention to yourself.

You don’t need to wave a Bible or shout on your job to show you’re a believer. Instead, carry Christ in your character. Let the Holy Spirit minister to you in the background as you work, make decisions, and engage with others.

When challenges arise, pause. Before reacting, listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit. That moment of pause can prevent a regrettable response. James 1:19 (NLT) says, “You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.”

This level of discipline doesn’t come from natural ability—it flows from a heavenly perspective.

Practical Benefits of a Heavenly Mindset

Here are a few practical outcomes when you maintain a heavenly mindset:

  1. Clarity in Decision Making: You’re not ruled by your emotions. You can hear God more clearly.

  2. Inner Peace: Even in the midst of chaos, you remain anchored in God’s promises (Isaiah 26:3).

  3. Divine Direction: You are sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:14).

  4. Emotional Maturity: You don’t overreact. You pray, pause, and proceed with wisdom.

  5. Gratitude as a Weapon: Thankfulness becomes a powerful shield against discouragement.

  6. Eternal Focus: You don’t get stuck in temporary circumstances; your eyes are fixed on eternity (Colossians 3:2).

Becoming Spiritually Dangerous

When you live with a heavenly mindset, you become spiritually dangerous. The enemy loses power over you because you’re not moved by circumstances. You live above offense. You walk in gratitude, humility, wisdom, and peace.

This doesn’t mean you’re perfect, but it means your posture is one of surrender. You’re aware of the spiritual realm, and you choose to live according to God’s truth rather than the patterns of this world.

Romans 12:2 (NKJV) declares, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Conclusion

A heavenly mindset keeps your heart aligned with God and your life in balance with eternity. Stay focused, stay grateful, and stay grounded in God’s Word.

Takeaways

  • A heavenly mindset makes you spiritually effective and emotionally grounded.

  • Gratitude is a daily act of worship that keeps your heart aligned with God.

  • A balanced life begins with an eternal perspective.

  • You don’t need to perform to show your faith—carry it quietly and powerfully.

  • Pausing before reacting creates space for God’s wisdom to guide your response.

  • A renewed mind is the gateway to knowing and doing God’s perfect will.

Chapter 6: Guarding Your Mind and Heart from Idolatry

Sub-title: Keeping God First: Overcoming Idolatry with a Heavenly Mindset

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, I come before You asking for forgiveness of sin. I am Your son, and I ask that You use my voice for Your glory. May I minister effectively to Your sons and daughters, and to all who will hear this word internationally. Let this teaching edify and bless the hearers. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Foundational Scripture

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
—Romans 12:2 (KJV)

In this chapter, we continue to explore the power of a Heavenly Mindset. As believers, we are called not to conform to the patterns of this world but to be transformed through the renewing of our minds. This spiritual transformation allows us to discern and follow God’s perfect will.

One of the most important aspects of this transformation is the ability to guard our hearts and minds. The peace of God acts as a shield, offering strength and stability in times of testing. But this peace goes far beyond the absence of trouble—it is a deep inner tranquility rooted in faith and trust in God.

A heavenly mindset causes us to crucify earthly desires and focus instead on godly principles. It does not require us to isolate ourselves from the world, but it shifts our focus. We no longer prioritize the things of this world above God. This realignment is essential in our spiritual walk.

The Subtle Danger of Modern Idolatry

When we think of idolatry, many imagine the Israelites worshiping golden calves in the wilderness. But idolatry is just as prevalent in today’s world—it has simply changed form.

Anything we place above God becomes an idol.

  • Your house

  • Your car

  • Your family

  • Your children

  • Your money

  • Your success

  • Your possessions

Even blessings from God can become idols when they consume our attention, affection, or devotion more than God Himself. Scripture warns us:

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God…”
—2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV)

God is still a jealous God (Exodus 34:14), and He will not accept any rival for our worship. As believers, God must be first in our lives. No one—not even our spouse, children, or ministry—should come before Him.

Godly Prosperity with the Right Perspective

God is not opposed to us having nice things—homes, cars, clothing, and wealth. In fact, these blessings are not reserved for the wicked. God delights in blessing His children.

However, the key is perspective.

We must have the right mindset so that we never place these things above God. When we have a heavenly mindset, we understand:

  • God is the source of every blessing.

  • Material things are simply resources.

  • All glory and honor belong to God alone.

We don’t worship the blessings—we worship the Blesser. We give thanks and express gratitude, knowing that even the air we breathe is a gift from Him.

God’s People Should Reflect His Glory

People need to see that the children of God are blessed. They need to witness that we are not only spiritually rich but can also walk in material and emotional wholeness. God is not poor, and His people should not portray Him as lacking.

Jesus traveled with a treasurer—Judas. Even though Judas was stealing from the money bag (John 12:6), the disciples never went without. This demonstrates that Jesus and His ministry were provided for.

We are not called to live in lack but to reflect God’s abundance—with humility and proper stewardship.

Gratitude and Worship

A heavenly mindset prompts us to live a life of gratitude. We are to lift our voices in praise daily, thanking God not just for material things but for life, salvation, peace, and purpose.

Let us remember the source of every good and perfect gift:

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights…”
—James 1:17 (KJV)

Conclusion

When we guard our hearts and prioritize God above all else, we protect our minds from the subtle dangers of modern idolatry and position ourselves to live in true peace and spiritual prosperity.

Takeaways

  • A heavenly mindset guards your heart and renews your focus on God’s will.

  • Anything placed above God becomes an idol—even blessings.

  • God desires His children to enjoy prosperity, but with the right priorities.

  • Worship the Giver, not the gift—God alone is worthy.

  • Prosperity in the life of believers reflects God’s glory to the world.

  • Daily gratitude reinforces a heavenly perspective and honors God.

Chapter 5: The Voice You Know

Subtitle: Cultivating Intimacy with God Through Consistent Communication

Prayer:

Father, as Your son, I come before You in reverence and humility, seeking to glorify Your name. Use my voice, Lord, so that the body of Christ may be edified. Let hearers around the world be strengthened and built up by this word. May this message bring encouragement, revelation, and transformation. I declare it in Jesus’ name—Amen.

Foundational Scripture:

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
—Romans 12:2 (NKJV)

A Heavenly Mindset Requires Ongoing Communication

A heavenly mindset is not developed overnight. Like any strong relationship, it requires time, intentionality, and—most importantly—communication. James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” This is not merely a poetic statement but a practical truth: if you want to know God, you must talk to Him.

Many people hesitate, saying, “I’ve never heard God’s voice.” But consider this—has God ever heard your voice?

You don’t need to speak in lofty, Elizabethan language with “thee” or “thou.” Just sit down and have an honest, heart-to-heart conversation with your Heavenly Father. He is not looking for performance; He is longing for relationship.

Learning to Hear the Voice of God

Jesus said in John 10:27, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” The more you speak with God, the more familiar you become with His voice. Just as you can recognize the voice of your spouse or child in a crowd because of frequent communication, you will learn to recognize the voice of God through regular time in prayer and devotion.

I recall a personal moment from one of my live worship recordings, A Perfect Praise, Vol. 1. In the middle of a powerful worship experience, I distinctly heard my mother’s voice among a crowd of people. Even on the recording, I can still identify her voice. Why? Because of our relationship and familiarity.

It’s the same with God. As you draw near and spend time in His presence, you’ll grow in discernment and sensitivity to His Spirit. You’ll begin to hear Him not just during prayer but in everyday decisions, challenges, and divine opportunities.

Peace That Surpasses Understanding

One of the greatest rewards of a heavenly mindset is peace—not the fragile peace the world gives, but “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding” (Philippians 4:7). This doesn’t mean God’s peace is incomprehensible, but rather that it transcends human emotion and reasoning.

This peace comes through relationship with Christ. It is in Him—and through consistent communion with Him—that we receive divine peace in the midst of trials, storms, and uncertainty. This is a supernatural calm that elevates us above chaos and fear.

God Has You Covered

Scripture reminds us to “cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). When life gets overwhelming, don’t carry the burden alone. Give it to God.

You don’t need to figure everything out or fight every battle on your own. God has your back—and not just your back, but your front, your side, your whole being. He is your complete covering.

This truth isn’t sourced from pop culture or motivational slogans. It’s grounded in Scripture and God’s unchanging character. His love and protection are available to every believer who seeks Him.

The Power of Jesus’ Name

Philippians 2:9–11 tells us that God has “highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow… and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.”

Jesus’ name carries divine authority. In John 16:23, Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.” This is a powerful invitation to approach the Father boldly, knowing that your relationship with Jesus grants you access to divine provision and protection.

A Relationship Rooted in Consistency

A heavenly mindset cannot be manufactured through occasional church attendance or emergency prayers. It is developed through consistent, intentional relationship with God. As you draw near to Him, engage in open dialogue, study His Word, and listen for His voice, you will discover a depth of peace, purpose, and spiritual strength that surpasses earthly understanding.

Conclusion:

A heavenly mindset begins with consistent communication with God. As you draw near, He draws near—and in that closeness, peace, clarity, and purpose are found.

6 Takeaways:

  • A heavenly mindset is cultivated through consistent communication with God.

  • God desires an honest relationship, not religious performance.

  • The more you talk to God, the more familiar His voice becomes.

  • God’s peace transcends understanding and sustains you through trials.

  • Jesus’ name gives you access to the Father and carries divine authority.

  • Consistency in prayer and devotion leads to clarity, strength, and peace.

Mindset (Part 9)

Mindset (Part 4)

Chapter 4: Walking in Purpose with a Heavenly Perspective

Opening Prayer:
Father, forgive me of all sin. I am Your son, and my entire desire is to release what You have deposited within me. Let the word You’ve given become a blessing to those who hear it. I give You all the glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Walking with Purpose and Focus

In the previous chapter, we explored Peter walking on water—a moment that is often reduced to his failure. However, let us not forget that Peter did walk on water. He stepped out in faith, something none of the other disciples did. His walk only faltered when distractions overtook his focus on Jesus.

This lesson teaches us that as we come into the knowledge of our God-given purpose on earth, it becomes essential to develop and maintain a heavenly mindset. This mindset helps us focus on the assignment God has given us without being derailed by distractions.

Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus

As taught in the Word, if Peter had simply kept his eyes on Jesus, he would have continued walking on water. I have said before that if Peter had walked all the way to Jesus, the boat may have emptied because his example would have inspired the others to do the same.

But the enemy intervened. Distractions came. The winds blew. Peter began to sink. Yet he cried out, and Jesus immediately reached out and lifted him. The lesson here is profound: when we take our eyes off Jesus, we begin to sink. But when we keep our focus, we walk in power.

Anchoring Ourselves in the Word

Let us return to our foundational scripture:

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
— Romans 12:2 (NKJV)

Having a heavenly mindset does not mean we will avoid trials, tests, or circumstances. Rather, it equips us to endure and overcome them.

“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”
— Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV)

Why is peace promised? Because trust is present. Trusting in God allows us to remain focused and unmoved by temporary situations. A heavenly mindset requires complete dependence on Him—seeking His face, asking for direction, and walking by faith.

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
— Proverbs 3:6 (NKJV)

Living with Eternal Focus

A heavenly mindset keeps us rooted in the Word, enabling us to fulfill our God-ordained purpose. It reminds us that our journey will not be storm-free. The winds will blow. The waves will rise. But when we remain steadfast in Christ, we receive supernatural peace.

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 4:7 (NKJV)

This peace isn’t comprehensible to the world. People may observe your trials and wonder how you remain composed. What they don’t understand is that your peace is anchored in Christ, not circumstances.

“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”
— 1 John 4:4 (NKJV)

Standing in Authority and Purpose

A heavenly mindset also reminds us of the authority we have in Christ:

“Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
— Luke 10:19 (NKJV)

We don’t cower in fear. We stand in faith. We trust that:

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
— Romans 8:28 (NKJV)

Yes, the enemy will challenge you. Yes, the waves will crash. But purpose pushes you forward. Focus keeps you stable. And a heavenly mindset keeps you anchored in eternal truth.

Conclusion

Keeping your mind on Jesus produces peace, power, and purpose that cannot be shaken by the world.
